Chats

Chats are real-time message threads, like Slack channels, that you can use internally with your team and externally with clients.

Creating a chat

In the right sidebar of your workspace, click Chats (or use the New button in the top-right). Give the chat a name, pick who's in it (team members, clients, or both), and start writing.

A chat with a client is the right place for ongoing conversation about their work. A chat with just your team is for internal coordination. You can have as many of each as you want.

What you can do in a chat

  • Send text messages with rich formatting (bold, italic, links, code, lists)
  • Attach files, the file uploads inline as part of the message
  • Drop images and they'll preview inline
  • Send a voice note when typing is too slow
  • React with emoji
  • @mention someone to notify them specifically, useful for grabbing attention in a busy thread

When you @mention a client, they get a notification too. They can mention you back.

What your client sees

When you add a client to a chat, the chat appears in their portal under Chat in the sidebar. They see the full message history from when they were added forward. They can reply, attach files, mention you, and react, same toolkit you have, just inside their simpler portal layout.

If a client is a member of multiple chats with you, each appears in their list separately.

Notifications

When you write in a chat, your client gets an in-app notification, and an email if they're not signed in. Notification preferences for chat messages can be tuned in your workspace's notification settings.
