Test run

Before you invite real clients, it's worth taking a tour of the portal yourself. The fastest way is to add yourself as a test client and switch between your workspace and your portal in two browser tabs.

Set up a test client

  1. From your workspace, navigate to Clients and click Add Client.

  2. Enter a test name and an email you can access. A personal email works well, or use a +test alias of your work email (e.g. you+test@yourdomain.com).

  3. Send the invitation.

You'll receive an email titled "You've been invited as a client to {your business name}." Click the link, set a password, and you're now signed in as a client.

Explore the client experience

Open your workspace in one browser tab and your portal in another. From here you can run the round-trip on each feature:

  • Send a chat from your workspace, watch it land in the test client's portal, reply back.
  • Create a board, share it with your test client, add a task, and see what they see.
  • Send an invoice and pay it from the public payment page.
  • Send a contract for signing and sign as the client.
  • Assign a form and fill it out.

This is also the right time to check your branding. Does the portal look right with your logo and colors? Are emails coming from the address you expect? Is the portal home page emphasizing the actions you want clients to take first?

A note about email notifications

Email behavior depends on whether the recipient is actively in the platform, if they appear active, some emails may be quieter than they'd be otherwise. To test the email side end-to-end, close one of the tabs so the other side appears inactive.

Some notifications arrive immediately; others may be batched so a flurry of activity doesn't produce a flurry of emails. The exact behavior is something you'll want to observe with your test client to see what your real clients will experience.

After you're satisfied

You can keep your test client around indefinitely, it's useful for previewing changes before clients see them. If you'd rather start clean, remove the test client from Clients once you're done.
